As recorded on Wobbly Dance Flower, “Be Free” playfully utilizes one motive throughout the piece in a variety of ways. The motive begins in a quick 7/4, and the solos are free to travel through different moods and feels. The melody and concept is derivative of the music of Thelonious Monk and Ornette Coleman.
