Jazz Heads
As recorded on Wobbly Dance Flower, “Jazz Heads” is an ode to my relationship with friend and mentor, Bob Mintzer. Bob and I share many similarities in our musical interests. We both are improvisers, composers, arrangers, EVI/EWI players, big band leaders, educators, and at the time of the recording, we were both “heads” of our respective jazz schools. So, I aimed to write something that had a similar “feel good” vibe as the old 70’s TV show theme song “Best Friend” from “The Courtship of Eddie’s Father”. The arrangement his many twists and turns through key changes and double time sections. The bass clarinet part can also be adapted for tenor saxophone.
