Don't Fence Me In
As recorded on American Dreamers: Voices of Hope, Music of Freedom, Don’t Fence Me In is a medium-up swing re-imagining that travels through an open Free Jazz section for the trumpet. The trumpet eventually instigates a call and response moment with the full band which leads to full improvised chaos before winding down and segue-ing into a cowboy style bridge (a la Roy Rogers) and returning to the medium-up ¾ swing feel for a rousing shout chorus. Throughout the arrangement, the band chants “Don’t Fence Me In” through various languages.
