Pententium Motion
As recorded on Live at Catalina’s, Vol. 1, Pententium Motion features high-energy, bombastic brass along with unusual, yet intuitive use of polymeter over a medium jazz ostinato groove in 5/4. The bridges are in ¾. There is ample space for the drums to solo over two conducted ensemble sections at the beginning and end, and a jazz trumpet solo between the head and development of the arrangement. The development section begins with a sparse saxophone soli, before developing into a shout section that features the horns phrasing 4/4 while the rhythm section simultaneously maintains the ostinato groove in 5/4. Formal Structure is AAB-A’A’B’C.
