Slick
Slick is a bouncy, funk groove with a singable melody with playful, descending chromatic figures throughout. Slick features the flute or alto saxophone and an extended solo at the end for another soloist (on the recording, Live at Catalina’s, Vol. 1, it features EVI). The form is AABA and the coda vamps, layers and builds over an extended “3-6-2-5” turnaround.
*Often for live performances, I will take Letter G to the end at a faster tempo for effect.
