El Último Suspiro

As recorded on Cuarentena, With Family at Home, “L’Ultimo Suspiro” is in dedication to Charlie Figueroa, bolero singer and father of percussionist, Sammy Figueroa.
The opening is open and free with the melody played on the bass (inspired by bassist Charlie Haden’s playing of “Lonely Woman” from the Ornette Coleman’s The Shape of Jazz To Come). The body of the arrangement showcases the beauty of the melody, carried by both the piano and trumpet.
