Internal
Internal is based on an 7/4 ostinato bass figure composed with bass harmonics in perfect fourths. It is recorded on Junk Wagon: The Big Band Album. The singable, consonant melody produces a meditative feeling. The instrumentation includes muted trumpets and flutes and clarinets. A solo trumpet improvises through a steadily building spacious, ostinato development that eventually explodes into a ‘70’s rock/funk groove (a la Miles Davis’ In a Silent Way). There are soli sections for the trombones and trumpets. Formal Structure is AAB.

On the recording (Junk Wagon: The Big Band Album), the solo is played by the E.V.I. However, this can be played on trumpet or any other instrument.
At the end, there is room for a “high-note” trumpet solo over the final rock/funk groove. -
