Bounce Da Nu Funk
As recorded on Live at Catalina’s, Vol. II, Bounce da nu Funk is a half-time funk shuffle originally commissioned by University of Central Oklahoma in 1997. Bounce is a bouncy, bop-ish tune set over a ½ Time Rock-Funk Shuffle Feel. To begin the chart, the horns set the groove a cappella, and the rhythm section joins after the first “A” section. The solo section is built on modal harmony and is open for anyone that wants to improvise. After the solos, there is a unique and playful interplay between the trumpets and trombones before building toward a lively saxophone soli in a new key (Eb). It has proven to be a good closer with its developing sections, twists and turns, and rhythmic groove.
