Here Comes The Sun
As recorded on Kaleidoscope Eyes: Music of The Beatles, Here Comes the Sun begins with a wind chimes effect orchestrated within the flutes (as the sun creates the wind!) and the melody played by the solo trumpet. The key is B Major because it is said that the sun resonates at a very, very low B. (Side note: there is an optional sun gong played throughout quietly throughout the piece). The solo trumpet continues to play the melody reharmonized and orchestrated throughout the orchestra. A choir joins and layers into the orchestration for George Harrison’s iconic classical Indian inspired bridge. There is an extended open solo for the E.V.I. (or trumpet) which takes a patient, building journey from I to IV, to V, to eventually arriving at the chorus in the new key of Ab, and then returning to B. There is a ramping soprano saxophone solo over the bridge which travels through the cycle of 5ths each section. The arrangement ends with an intimate duet between the solo trumpet and bass clarinet.
