Soldado Distinguido (para Sgt. Alvin York)

As recorded on Cuarentena, With Family at Home, “Soldado Distinguido (por Sgt. Alvin York)” is in dedication to Sgt. Alvin York, a decorated World War I recipient of the Medal of Honor and a maternal ancestor. The composition is a reverent honoring of courage and mission, and a somber acknowledgment of the reality of war. Musically, this piece is harmonically inspired by Rodgers and Hart’s American Songbook standard, My Funny Valentine. It is melodically inspired by the 2^nd movement of Ludwig Van Beethoven’s Piano Sonato Concerto No. 8 in C minor, Pathetique.
