Camels
Funky Camels is the second movement of the suite, “A Tribute to Dee Barton”, as recorded on “Live at Catalina’s, Vol. 1” and Junk Wagon: The Big Band Album. The groove intends to conjure an image of camels caravanning across the desert. Have you ever hung out with a camel? If so, you know they can be a temperamental, however they get you where you need to go! There is solo space for trombone and flute, and features the bass clarinet within the melody. Ensemble sections feature a quirky trombone soli (with beefy bass trombone part) and playful exchanges between the saxes and brass. Formal Structure is AABACA, including metric play with triplets and melodic blues vocabulary.
